Dioxothiazolo 5,4-f quinoline-8-carboxylic acids of formula (I): (where R1 is 1-4C alkyl, 2-4C alkenyl, benzyl) and their pharm. acceptable salts, are antibacterial agents. (I, R1 = allyl) is more active than nalidixic acid against Gram negative organisms. (I, R = benzyl) is different from the others and is active against Gram positive positive organisms.
