The protection is for guttering and downpipes to prevent them becoming blocked with leaves, fallen branches and other debris. The device covers part or all of the guttering with a grill or netting. This cover is placed at the top of the guttering. The leaves and other debris collect on the cover and are blown away by the wind without causing a blockage. Another form of the device comprises a complete box section within the guttering and with a protuberance into the downpipe.
