In measuring the amts. of various proteins present in the human body, having slightly different electric charges (isonzymes), (a) a sample of the protein-contg. liq. usually blood plasma, in an unmodified ionic form is passed through an ion exchange column, and the effluent collected, (b) successive volumes of a buffer soln. are passed through the ion exchange column and the effluent for each volume collected separately, the ionic concn. of some of the volumes being different to that of the other volumes so that the proteins having different charges are found in different lots of effluent, (c) each of the volumes is analyzed spectrophotometrically, so that the relative absorbence of each of the volumes gives an indication of the presence or absence of specific pre-determined proteins. Method is partic. useful for diagnosing myocardial infarctus. The process is easy to carry out and gives accurate results since sepn. of isoenzymes is effected.
