Process for heating Cowper stoves on blast furnaces, comprises preheating the heating-gas and the combustion-air for the burners in the stoves, with the aid of the flue gas in a recuperator. The flue gases leaving the stoves are heated before entering the recuperator by burner(s) pref. fed using a part of the gs preheated in the recuperator and a part of the preheated combustion air. The heating-gas and the combustion-air are pref. heated via a common flue, and the pref. device consists of a network of pipes connecting the Cowper stoves to the recuperator which contains separate heat exchangers for the air and the gas. Use of fuel with a high calorific value is avoided, as is excessive mechanical stresses in the recuperator; each Cowper stove being separately controlled.
