1478914 Nonionic starch hydrolysates A E STALEY MFG CO 16 Aug 1974 [5 Dec 1973] 36145/74 Addition to 1435172 Heading C3U A hydrolysed, cold water-soluble starchbased composition comprises a starch derivative which has been enzyme clarified and includes one nonionic substituent having a degree of substitution of from 0À1 to 0À3, the substituent being alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, cyanoalkyl, amidoalkyl or acyl, the amylose content of the starch derivative being not more than 30% by weight of the starch, d.s.b., and the Brookfield viscosity of a 24-27% solids aqueous solution of the starch derivative being from 10 to 500 c.p.s. when measured with a No. 1 spindle at 20 r.p.m. at 80‹ F. The composition may be made by acid thinning a granular starch and reacting the acid thinned starch in granular form with a reagent which provides the derived substituent, waterwashing the crude granular reaction product to obtain a uniformly substituted starch-based composition, filtering and then enzyme clarifying.
