Coating compositions, particularly for metal articles, consist of a mixture of (a) a heat meltable film forming resin, (b) a metal, metal oxide, or metal salt, which does not melt at the m.pt. of (a), to act as crosslinking agent, (c) a finely-divided non-film forming nitrogen compound as bridging agent, and (d) optionally a moderator and/or pigment. The composition is employed for coating metal articles by methods such as flame spraying, swirl sintering, electrostatic spraying of powders; or by application as an organosol or plastisol. The coated metal articles are then heated to a temp. higher than the m.pt. of the coating composition, pref. 200-380 deg.C., in order to effect crosslinking.
