The liq is spread as a film to run down the underside of an inclined surface from which successive rows of vertical rods take some of the liq. straight down to a collector into which the film falls. Each rod fits into an open - fronted slot in a supporting cross - bar, the open front facing the oncoming liq. supply, and the top of the crossbar is chamfered to an angle which redirects surplus liq. back into the main film. The sepn. of incoming liq. into evenly - distributed, unbroken, unbroken streams ensures an extremely efficient exchange process so that cooling towers in particular, may be constructed to compact, economical designs.
