1480274 Rendering paper and board non- adherent GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 2 Aug 1974 [27 Nov 1973] 34252/74 Heading D2B [Also in Divisions B8 and C3] A process for rendering paper and board non-adherent to surfaces which normally adhere thereto comprises treating paper or board with an aqueous emulsion containing from I to 50% by wt. of (i) a vinyl chain-stopped polysiloxane having the formula wherein each of R and R' is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical free of unsaturation, at least 50 mol % of the R' groups being methyl, and n has a value such that the polysiloxane is a fluid having a viscosity of from 100 to 750000 centistokes at 25‹C; (ii) an organic hydrogenpolysiloxane having the formula wherein R is as defined above, a is from 0 to 3, b is from 0.005 to 2.0, and a + b is from 0.8 to 3, there being at least 2 Si-bonded H atoms per molecule; and (iii) a Pt catalyst effective to cause copolymerisation of (i) and (ii), and drying the treated material. The paper may be natural or synthetic e.g. polyethylene paper, polyvinylacetate paper. The emulsion may be applied by means of a size press on a papermaking machine.
