The traveller's cheque has a first zone delimiting a first predetermined space, and code mark is inscribed in this first zone in ink which is invisible to the naked eye but is visible under ultraviolet light. A second zone on the cheque delimits a second predetermined space in which is manually applied a mark corresponding to the code mark inscribed in invisible ink. The marks are reference and written signatures and the reference signature zone may have a magnetic code which is read automatically. The ink is sensitive to heat, water and chemicals.
