1423790 Seat belt reel SIGMATEX AG 7 Nov 1973 [26 July 1973] 51699/73 Heading A3V A locking mechanism 2, Fig. 1 is operated by inertia, is intended for use with a safety belt (not shown) which is wound around a spool (not shown) having a ratchet wheel 6 mounted thereon, and comprises an inertia member 8, a retaining base 10 for the inertia member 8, and a member 12 which engages the inertia member 8 and which is attached to a locking member 14. The latter is pivoted at 16 to a support 17 which may be integral with the base 10. When the inertia member 8 is moved from its rest position shown in Fig. 1 to the position shown in Fig. 2, the locking member 14 is pivoted into engagement with a tooth of the ratchet wheel 6, thus restraining the withdrawal of the safety belt from its spool. In modifications, the base has a convex surface 34, Fig. 4, has a recess 44, Fig. 6 or 46, Fig. 7, is provided with a magnet 40, Fig. 6 or 42, Fig. 7, the inertia member 8 being made from magnetic material, and the member 12 is provided with portion 13, Fig. 5, so as to form a cup-shape.
