The compositions contain finely divided water-insoluble crystalline aluminium silicates which are capable of binding the hardness formers in the water and have a calcium-binding capacity of 100 - 200 mg CaO/g anhydrous active substance and contain bound water and which have the composition 0.7-1.1 Cat2O .1.0 Al2O3 . 1.3-3.3 SiO2 in which Cat is an alkali metal cation which can exchange with the calcium ion, and at least one other compound which has a washing, bleaching or cleaning action. In order to achieve rapid ion exchange and high wash efficiency, these aluminium silicate crystals have rounded corners and edges and consist of at least 80 % of particles with a size of 8 - 0.01 mu , with virtually no particles being larger than 30 mu .
