The economiser is particularly for automobile engines, and consists of a filter mounted in the path of the fuel/air mixture emerging from the carburetter and typically in the form of a strainer or perforated plate clamped along the edge between carburetter and inlet manifold. It can have a peripheral frame shaped to fit against carburettor and manifold mating faces, and of sealing material such as plastic. It can curved towards the manifold in the centre, to allow freedom of movement to the throttle butterfly. The material of the perforated plate causes a catalytic action on the fuel air mixture to improve combustion.
