It may be prepared by treating a solution of HES having the same degree of substitution but an intrinsic viscosity of 0.28 to 0.30 with an acid having a physiologically acceptable anion (e.g. HCl), adding appropriate adjuvants, sterilizing and removing pyrogens, e.g. by treatment with Raney nickel.
