1438424 Sulphonic and sulphuric acid salts of benzimidazole-carbamic acid esters HOECHST AG 17 April 1974 [21 April 1973] 16741/74 Heading C2C Novel sulphonic and sulphuric acid esters of benzimidazole-carbamic acid esters having the general formula wherein R is a (C 1 -C 4 ) alkyl group and B is a (C 1 -C 8 ) alkyl, alkenyl or alkoxy group, or an alkylphenyl, alkylnaphthyl or alkoxyphenyl group having at least 9 carbon atoms in all are prepared by reacting a benzimidazole-carbamic acid ester of the formula with a sulphonic or sulphuric acid derivative of the formula The reaction preferably takes place at a temperature of from 0‹ to 140‹ C. in an organic solvent; alternatively the desired products may be obtained by simply melting the two reactants together, or by dissolving the benzimidazole carbamate in water with the aid of a strong mineral acid and precipitating the desired compound from the aqueous solution containing the mineral acid by the addition of the sulphonic acid derivative. The novel compounds possess fungicidal activity.
