Circular or oval swimming pool (2) is constructed from modular blocks and is reinforced by horizontally encompassing metal bands (1) which are closed by tensioning links (3), the bands bearing on the external wall surface of the pool, strengthening the wall and making it more watertight by pressing the blocks together. Pref. the bands (1) are of trellis work, mesh or sheet, and constitute several similar parallel tendons; they can be doubled or tripled depending on wall height and the tendons towards the wall base can be given greater tension. The links applying the tension may be hooks tightened by screws, hooked steel cables or a system of bolting.
