The device provides a bridging for the joint between rails, and prevent jolting in passing rolling-stock. Towards their ends the connected rails (1, 2) have a cutout (5, 6) in the rail heads (4) which are narrowest at the joint (14) where they meet, to form an obtuse angle. A connecting fishplate (8), of a shape complementary to the cutouts, runs in flush alignment with the top (9) of the rail heads, and bridges the joint. A countering fishplate is provided on the opposite side of the rail stem (9), held to the first by a screw connection, slots (7) being pref. provided in stems and/or fishplates, wear on rails and rolling-stock wheels is reduced, and passenger comfort is increased.
