The rail, for balustrade, staircase, guide-rail, barrier etc., pref. of metal, comprises one or a series of shaped-section bars with a longitudinal opening for attachment to posts or other carriers, by means of T-headed connecting-piece inserted into the opening. The fixing flange of this piece is fitted to the head at an obtuse angle, with the effect that the flange, projecting from the rail after insertion, is set at a sloping angle to an independent element, the head being resiliently connected to the flange. There may be notches in the cross-arm of the T-head, for engagement, when inserted, round lips projecting inwards from the opening in the shaped rail, bounding the edge of this. Fixture of rail sections on uprights is quick and simple, and secure, with premature deformations of the opening under impact prevented.
