The element is for quick and simple joining to other similar ones for assembly into a secure loadbearng staircase, for use on building sites, in outdoor installations or for temporary purposes. Two fixing arms (3), parallel to the tread surface, are fitted irectly onto the grill (1) which provides the tread surface, and the supporting unit (2) stands vertically to this. The arms may be equipped with media for attachment to the support beam, and they may be perforated (6) to accommodate nails, screws or other connections. If they project beyond the grill they can serve as a base for the support unit for the next step above. The centre piece of the support unit may be cylindrical. Water, snow, sand and dirt fall through the grill to leave the tread clear.
