摘要
Increased operational life of 'big-end' crankshaft bearing results from the use of split needle roller bearing shells. The bearing shells are located between the connecting rod (10) and the crankshaft (28) by an end cap (16) secured by two bolts (14). The bearing shells are in the form of a semi circle needle roller assembly (24) mounted in a cage. Shell inserts (20) fit into the connecting rod end (12) and the end cap (16) and are located by projections (22) that prevent any possibility of rotation. The inserts have an enlarged diameter tip at either end to prevent axial movement of the needle shells and of the complete assembly relative to the crankshaft. An oilway passes down the length of the connecting rod and through an orifice (26) in the top insert.
