The needle bearing has an outer shell (1) which is bent over at each end to form lips (5, 9). An inner shell (2) is bent upwards at one end to form a third lip (6), so that the needle rollers (4) are prevented from falling out of the bearing. This lip is arranged to have the minimum overlap with the nearer lip (9) on the outer shell which will connect the two shells. An Independent claim is included for a method for making the needle bearing in which the shells and optionally the needle rollers are decarburised and nitrided after assembly.
