Moulds on a pig caster are arranged with long axis parallel to the direction of travel of the endless belt on which one end is mounted. Wheels on the other end run on a parallel track to keep the mould horizontal during casting and cooling. At the top of the inclined track, the mould passes over the sprocket wheel and, on reaching the vertical position, swings over to strike a knock-out post which shakes the pig loose. On the return stretch, the moulds hang vertical so that effective cooling is promoted. Different sized moulds can easily be used, and there is no problem with rusted-in screws as on former designs.
