Reverse inhibit mechanism for electric power meters - is for use in power network applications and prevents electric power meters from counting backwards
The simple mechanism is for preventing electric power meters from counting backwards when the direction of power flow is momentarily reversed. The device is applicable to power networks where several power stations are involved, and power can flow dynamically into a station. The mechanism concerns the rotating element in a power meter, which is attached to a shaft, and rotates under the influence of an electromagnetic rotating field. To this shaft is screwed by means of a simple clamp a special shaped element in which is cut a tooth. This comes into contact with a plastic mating element mounted on a spindle which is in turn fixed to the chassis of the instrument. The effect of this is to allow the original shaft to turn in one direction only and so to monitor and count power flow in that direction only.
