This paper describes a microcontroller-based device that provides real time locally data display and record, for several electrical parameters, acquired from a smart power and energy meter device. The aim of this device is to provide directly access to momentary power consumption information, graphically displayed as a process diagram on a monitoring graphic panel, or remotely by using a computer or mobile devices. Thereby, the customer can more easily manage his power consumption manner. The device can be used as an AMR (Automatic Meter Reading) gateway, by changing the firmware suitable made for another communication standard (e.g. IEC 62056-47, 7-x, 9-x). For acquiring information, the presented solution uses serial interface, directly connected to the energy meter, and a communication protocol described in IEC 62056-21 standard. Parameters are sorted and stored on an internal memory card and displayed, as numbers and time diagram on a graphic panel, but can be remotely accessed, by using a pair of Client-Server applications. The device was designed to be connected in a home, or residential, TCP/IP and Ethernet based network, which makes it very useful as an interface with other communication technologies.
