A delay network is used in audio engineering applications when typically a delay equivalent to that produced by a direct audio path through air is required. The system is economical in its use of circuits compared with traditional methods. The audio signal is transduced via a microphone, filtered and amplified and applied to an analogue-to-digital converter producing a twelve bit output. This is fed to a nine stage shift register based delay line. The output of this is fed to a digital to analogue converter, to an amplifier, and thence to a low pass filter and output amplifier. Noise suppression circuits are also incorporated in the arrangement.
