The milling machine has a milling head rotatable over a table around a cross-running horizontal axis, the milling spindle of which runs at 90 deg. to this horizontal axis and is fixed unrotatable laterally to a hollow bearer. The bearer is rotatable around a horizontal axis, but is firmly fixed in a bearer slide in the machine itself. Between the milling spindle and a gear attached to a drive motor is a power transfer means, a part of which is located inside the bearer. The milling spindle drive motor is fixed to the end of the bearer away from the milling head and the gear is located in the bearer. The spindle drive motor is flanged onto the bearer parallel to the milling spindle.
