Radiation emitted by a hollow cathode temp at temps just room temp (wavelength 2270 angstroms) is analysed after its passage through the unknown sample contg. NO which absorbs at this particular frequency. The % radiation transmitted is measured, indicating the conc. of NO in the sample (esp. air or exhaust gases.) The response of the appts is rapid and very accurate measurements can be carried out continously.
