The image is scanned by a point to point system with the light split into the selected colour components using light fibre optics and prisms, and displayed as separate spectra. The optimum part of each spectrum is selected for each colour component to give an accurate colour mix, without residual error signals in each component. A computerised scanner assimulates the picture build-up. Between the prisms and the pick-up tube is a comb-like masking plate, and this is followed by a photo-electric detector device.
