The active carbon element is intended for absorption of harmful substances in a hermetically enclosed component, such as an electromagnetic relay. the active carbon element is of compact shape and held in a U-shaped holding clamp whose centre bridge part is secured to the realy housing, while while the free sprung shanks secure the carbon element. The latter may be of longitudinal shape and its rounded narrow sides rest in depressions of the spring shanks. The latter may be trough-shaped, at least partly, and their edges may be outwards bent. The depressions in both shanks may be offset, which results in oblique mounting of the carbon element.
