The window frame may be inserted into an old but sound wooden frame remaining in the masonry, in which case the metal reinforcement consists of angled bars one side of which is attached to the old wooden frame, and the other side is at right angles to the frame plane which is fixed to the outside surface of the plastic window-frame. The metal frame has projections which fit into grooves in the plastic frame. On the side not facing the plastic frame, the metal strip has attachments for fixing support bars. The metal reinforcement tapers off to the outside of the frame, beneath a water-drainage opening in the plastic frame.
