Fluidised bed treatment of cohesive powders - using revolving gas inlet nozzles to break up cohesive clumps

A fluidised bed for treating pulverulent material, esp. highly cohesive material, has revolving gas inlet distributor nozzles mounted in independent bearings in the base of the vessel; each revolving nozzle contains one or more gas inlet ducts leading to one or more radial arms having nozzle outlets at their tips; viewed in plan horizontally, the axis of discharge from each nozzle tip makes an angle with the radius passing through that tip of 0-180 (90) degrees; the two nozzles are at different radii from the centre. Viewed in vertical section, the nozzles are also preferably inclined downwards the base of the vessel, at 0-60 (45) degrees. highly intensive disturbing action is produced in the bed material, thus breaking up any obstructing paths caused by high adhesion.
