Horizontal centrifugal pump unit has a displaceable blade wheel which ensures a degree of efficiency by allying pressure balance not to the blade wheel, but to the pressure bearing. The outer diameter of the pressure bearing corresponds approximately to the suction mouth of the blade wheel. The plate of the pressure bearing is fitted displaceably axially within a cylinder, but does not rotate and is fixed firmly to the housing. The vacuum required for the pressure balance is produced from the blade wheel input side by means of the hollow shaft of the pump and motor to the other end behind the pressure bearing. The plate of the pressure bearing rotates in a cylinder, which, including its terminal hollow space, is sealed against the pump body. The pressure thus produced, in that hollow space, means that the same pressure apertains as on the suction side of the pump. Since no essential enlargement of the rotating upper surface of the pump is required for this pressure bearing unloading, the degree of efficiency of this type of pipe-line pump is considerably increased.
