A method of separating particles from a fluid by centrifuging in a stationary chamber with tangential inlet and central outlet is carried out with regulation of the angular rotational speed of the "core" of fluid at the centre; this central core is made to revolve at constant speed (not increasing towards the centre), the general conditions being such that the particles have left the fluid before the fluid reaches the core. The fluid leaves the core region without any appreciable rotational motion. This gives reduced energy loss in the purified fluid at the outlet and further downstream.
