FHP DC motor with tachogenerator windings on laminated rotor - has excitation windings and commutators at shaft ends

The FHP d.c. motor has a laminated rotor with an equal number of slots for the motor excitation windings and for tachogenerator windings. The slots cut across the rotor surface at an angle to the axis of rotation, and the excitation slots are wider than the tachogenerator slots. The commutators for the two sets of windings are situated one at each end of the motor shaft between the bearings and the end faces of the rotor. The stator is formed by a ring of permanent magnets contoured to the rotor surface. This arrangement simplifies the motor construction and reduces its size and cost.
