Materials which contain ferromagnetic compds. are mixed and transported by subjecting than to the action of magnetic fields. The majority of magnetic field forces influence the mixture and, depending on the viscosity and vol. of the mixt, these are switched on and off according to a predetermined programme on an electric or electronic controller. The forces are created mainly by D.C. but also partly by A.C. so that inversions of polarity essential for good mixing are carried out. The material is demagnetised by A.C. at the end of the operation. Use for plastics mixt., etc. contg. magnetic materials, esp. iron or steel fillers in resins in which small rods, fibres, etc. are used. Gives effective mixing without physical agitations and attendant mechanical problems.
