Diphenyl silane diol prepn. from diphenyl dichlorosilane - by hydrolysis with (bi)carbonate in presence of alkali hydroxide

Finely divided diphenylsilane diol (II) is prepd by (i) allowing diphenyl dichlorosilane (I) and an amt of an aq. alkali hydroxide soln., equiv. to Cl content of (I), to flow, with strong stirring, e.g. via rotor of an intensive stirrer, into =5 x wt of an aq. soln of an alkali carbonate or -bicarbonate at pH 6-11 (8.5-9.5) at 30 degrees C, and (ii) filtering pptd (II), washing drying and grinding. (II) is an auxiliary in prepn of organopolysiloxane elastomers reinforced with finely dispersed silicic acid filers.
