Shower bath head for hand showers and stationary showers produces intermittent spray streams, and the interruption or change of the streams is effected mechanically by a vane wheel which is rotated by the stream of water. Pref. the wheel drives a cover disc rotatably mounted on a bottom plate of the spray head and covering, or releasing via perforations, stream openings in the floor. The disc is connected to the wheel via a shaft which is guided, with conical ends, for easy rotation in the floor, a distributor pot or a hand shower housing. The design is simple and practical. The bearings of the wheel do not require special lubrication and the wheel is not prone to jamming. The turning moment on the wheel is produced by the flow of water past curved vanes.
