Easily workable thermoplastic resin compsn. - having a high content of epoxy resin-coated (hollow) glass microspheres

Thermoplastic resins (I) contain up to 80wt. % (hollow) glass microspheres in combination with 0.1-5wt. % (based on the microspheres) of a curable epoxy resin (II). Not withstanding the high filler content, the compsn. is eminently workable, any rejects from moulding processes being milled and remoulded. Moulded prodts. have extreme rigidity, improved shock- and impact-resistance, high surface glossiness and do not abrade extruding/injection equipment during their mfr. The compsn. is esp. useful in the prodn. of electrical components for which duroplastic matls. had previously been used (which were more difficult and took longer to process).
