Switch with arc-quenching chamber for non-gaseous material - and gaseous material in electrode region to divert arc into chamber

The switch has an arc-quenching chamber whose parallel plates and walls are of non-gassy material and situated opposite the ends of the two electrodes. Each electrode has a contact halfway along its length. Gaseous material is situated on the opposite side of the contacts from the quenching chamber and causes the arc to move away from it towards the quenching chamber. This gaseous material is mechanically linked to the moving electrode operating mechanism so that as the electrodes separate it moves up into the contact region.
