Lifting path measuring device by cable operated lifting tools using a counting mechanism controlled by a light cabinet where a friction wheel which is pressed by springs against the lifting cable and is forced to roll off the lifting cable path, is in the form of a perforated disc. This disc causes a light barrier fitted to it to generate switching pulses proportional to the cable run off to the counting mechanism, which indicates in meters, on the machine stand. A suitable switching diode is incorporated in the circuit and the display in the system is positioned in the line of vision of the operator.
