Tractor transmission with high or low selection - with two forward speeds in group gear box for large torque application

The drive shaft of the main gear box is in parallel to its layshaft and to the input shaft of the group gear box, which it drives by direct drive. The output shaft of the group gear box is driven directly from the layshaft using a single gear to drive the tractor in reverse. The input shaft of the group gear box has two gears with a sliding selector to mesh with the drive gear on the main gear box layshaft. This provides a simple high/low ratio without affecting the torque capability of the transmission. The system enables the tractor to have a large torque capacity not only for ploughing, at slow speeds, but also for faster speeds as is required for snow clearances.
