Tractor transmission with wide gear ratio range - has group gear box and high or low speed and torque selector

The tractor transmission is fitted with a group gear box in front of the main gear box to extend the range of the available gear ratios. The two sets of transmissions are provided with parallel shafts and are interlocked in such a way that some of the gear wheels are common to both systems, while some of the gear wheels are used two or three times in different ratios. This provides a set of gear ratios in several bands which do not overlap. The tractor can be used for low speed, high torque work, as well as higher speed road transport, without increasing the complexity of the transmission or the selector levers.
