The edges of the pedals of a bicycle are covered with light reflecting material. These are fitted for improving the safety in the road traffic. Reflecting surfaces are made by adhesive bonding of reflecting materials which are covered with transparent covers. This arrangement is such that it cannot be covered by the feet. Minimum sizes are prescribed in order to ensure that the reflecting surfaces especially on the sides or pedals are not covered by the feet. For this reason the pedals are made thicker than conventionally, so that the surfaces seen from the front or rear of the machine are especially enlarged.
