A centrifugal separator (cyclone) has a conventional conical body, tangential fluid inlet and bottom discharge for separated particles. The dip-pipe (clean gas outlet) can be made to rotate, thereby eliminating the horizontal component of the circular motion of the fluid in it. This reduces the energy loss due to friction between the fluid and the surface of the pipe. The pressure loss in the cyclone is reduced by up to 30%.
