Ore-coke-briquette smelting in shaft furnace - partially replacing briquettes by coke briquettes for charge column support

In the smelting of briquettes contg. ore and coke in a shaft furnace, coke briquettes are also added in amt. 5-20 (pref. 10) wt. % of the coke required for smelting. Pref. both types of briquette are produced by hot briquetting and have the same size and shape. The coke briquettes provide the required support for the charge column and reduce resistance to gas flow.
