The bite area or pad which is formed between upper and lower troughs in the centre of the underarm section of the protective sleeve has a T-shaped cross section with a holding edge whic protrudes up and down at the front edge. Soft leather sections are sewn onto the back of the top and bottom edges of the hard leather holding edges so that large bite sections run parallel to the bite surface and short fastening sections are bent up at right angles which are stitched to the longitudinal edges of the hard leather strip. A hard insert layer set between the bite sections of the soft leather sections has the outline of the bite pad, with the hard leather strip forming the crosspiece and the hard inlay forming the longitudinal web of the T-shaped bit pad.
