Railway points with movable tongue- and stock-rails - with latter swivelling outwards just where tongue tip lies against them

The stock rails can swivel horizontally outwards in the area where the tip of the tongue fits against them, but are fixed in the area just before this. The stock rail ends and adjoining rails may be bevelled upwards for form-locking connection, and may be locked together by mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic means. Tongue tips can be kept short, and gaps between rail ends prevented, even in large-radius curved points. The tongued switch points, with tongue rails able to swivel horizontally, are esp. for high-speed railway traffic.
