The elongate valve member is longitudinally slidable between opposite walls of a housing and comprises a sealing member supported on a frame. The sealing member is urged against one of the walls, which constitutes a valve seat, by a spring arranged between the sealing member and the frame and bearing on the other wall. Thereby sealing pressure is ensured without the need for an accurate fit of the valve member in the housing. The wall forming the seat is flat and contains the valve ports. The sealing member has a rectangular recess facing the ports and bounded by edges bearing on the wall, any two ports being connectable through the recess by appropriate positioning of the valve member.
