Centralizing grips for cylindrical workpieces - are unaffected by swarf or cooling fluid

The gripping process is carried out by two gripping arms which are moved by an accurately guided wedge which is provided with two different angles, the steep angle on the nose of the wedge surfaces is used to produce rapid closing from a wide angle of opening of the gripping arms and the shallow angle is used to produce a tight grip of the arms with little axial force. The angle of opening of the arms can be adjusted by a stop on the piston operating the wedge. The arms are both pivoted approx. at their centres, and springs bearing against the inside of the pivot housing force the rear ends of the levers against the wedge.
