Antibiotic salinomycin - produced by cultivating Streptomyces albus and extracting the medium and mycelium

The new antibiotic salinomycin (I) salts and esters are produced by cultivating a (I)-producing strain of Streptomyces albus pref. no. 80614 (FERM-P No. 419), under submerged conditions in a liq. medium suitable for the culture of Actinomycetes, extracting (I) from the medium and from the mycelium, purifying, and opt. converting into a salt or ester. (I) is a coccidiostatic agent particularly suitable for the preventive and curative treatment of poultry coccidiosis.
