Mechanised canteens or restaurants with meal and drink serving positions and with central washing facilities and a number of tables and chairs, including an endless conveyor arranged along the meal and drink serving positions by which units formed by individual tables and sets of chairs are moved along the meal and drink serving positions. The meal and drink serving positions as well as the washing facilities are located in space within the conveyor track and the tables with chairs are mounted on bases fitted with rollers and spaced behind each other along the conveyor by which they are continuously or intermittently moved. The tables have a removable top which is moved by a cross conveyor from a clearing up position through the kitchen centre in the serving position.
